Basically, this quote is a "Do Not Believe In" quote. Overall, it talks about how you should not believe in things just because, you should believe in it because you want to. Buddha seems to be trying to aim toward people that believe in anything. Whether it is from what someone told them, to what they hear, or what they feel as though they have to do.

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.

Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

In this quote repetition is used very frequently. It repeats "Do not believe in..." in the beginning of every line except for the end. The reason why I like this quote is because I've seen a lot of people that believe in things just because they feel like they have to or they just listen to everything they hear. So when I seen this quote it reminded me that there are a lot of people that I feel should take the advice from this person, simply because you cannot believe in everything that happens around you.
